The Pursuit of Independence
An animated exploration of Hollywood’s economic evolution.
Context
Originally developed as a graduate project, this animated short traces Hollywood’s journey from its pioneering origins to the modern era. Despite its academic beginnings, the film gained professional recognition and was selected for screenings by Ciclic Centre Val de Loire, Cinéma 93, La Maison de l’Image, and UGC Ciné Cité Strasbourg Etoile.
Solution
The film challenges the idea of Hollywood as a purely corporate machine, revealing an industry founded on a quest for artistic and commercial autonomy. I crafted a visual narrative that contrasts the original dream of independence with the modern reality of global conglomerates and astronomical budgets. The story ultimately asks whether the industry’s soul was traded for its scale.
