Manchester Memorabilia: the Living Frame
Shocased at HOME as part of the Manchester Open Exhibition (2020)
Context
A series of "mental photographs" debuted at Home Manchester, reimagining the city as a vibrant, breathing cinematic set. Selected for the inaugural Manchester Open, these illustrations move beyond mere architecture to capture the city’s restless, flickering energy.
Solution
The series explores the immersion of the individual within the urban hive. Through a focus on tactile textures and bold, environmental typography, the city is presented as a theatrical backdrop where characters become one with the scenery.
Inspired by the feeling of "living in a film," the compositions treat neon signs and brickwork as primary narrators. It is an exploration of urban osmosis—where the grit of Manchester meets a dreamlike, cinematic haze, and the mundane street corner is elevated to a high-stakes visual story.
